Subtle Scales

A strange beautiful woman
met me in the mirror
the other night.
Hey,
I said,
What you doing here?
She asked me
the same thing.

-Marilyn Nelson, A Strange Beautiful Woman

In August, I talked about starting a program by Parsons x Teen Vogue where at the end I’ll be receiving a certificate in Fashion Essentials and I have never enjoyed doing “schoolwork” so much in my entire life. I’m learning more about all the things that already draw me to fashion like merging it with business but it’s also teaching me how important it is to understand visual style. Visual style is all about the way you prefer to express yourself through the way you dress, lighting, setting and so much more. It’s about understanding what your taste is, while still growing, experimenting, and incorporating new ways to blend all these things together. This post is actually part of an assignment that requires me to make a mood board on Pinterest completely centered on my style, the things that inspire me and just anything that fits my aesthetic. Basically the world’s best homework assignment so far. I’ll link the mood board here for those of you who would like to check it out to see how I did or just to get a little inspiration. By the way, I hope you’re loving this jacket as much as I am. If there’s one thing I love it’s a subtle look with a pop.
